New Portrait!

New Portrait? New Portrait! Take a look!!

Rugby Dan

Get this, it’s of ANOTHER guy named Dan that I’ve known since I was 5. Two of them? What are the odds??

RUGBY!

…I had a lot of fun with this one.

Birthday Birds?

Well hey now, the 22nd of February happens to be my birthday…

How should we celebrate? BIRDS!!!

If I'm counting right, there were four different Blue Jay specimens at the Montreal Biodome. WOW. After I finished losing my mind, I painted them.

Jessica

Darling at le Cagibi

This is a watercolour of Jessica at a cafe we kept going back to. It took us a hell of a long time to figure out the name of the place though. Apparently it was some kind of secret.

…ok ok, it was KIND OF a hipster cafe. Yeah, I know, pretty damn gross, but they had pretty fantastic coffee. All in all it was a cool little place. Comfortable, you might say. Minus the hipsters.

Dr. Sketchy

WHOA! So I love going to a life drawing session as much as the next guy (which I hope is a lot, otherwise the next guy is a jerk), but I have NEVER had as much fun life drawing than at two Dr. Sketchy sessions Jessica and I went to in Montreal. Hilarious fun.

This was the first of the two they held in January, the Nevermore session. An Edgar Allan Poe themed, burlesque, life drawing session. No, seriously! OK fine, click here… but don’t forget to look for me and Jessica, cause we won two of the contests. Hilarious fun!

I think this one is my favourite.

"Lou Lou le Duchess de Riere," had a very striking profile. And a really cool bird on her head! Hilarious fun!

This one didn't turn out so great, but it attaches to the next drawing, which I like, so I thought I'd include it.

This one.

This one.

And THIS ONE won me the "Draw Your Heart Out," contest and a little plastic Edgar Alan Poe. I had fun.

Hopefully, one day, Jessica will post her drawings from this session on her website, cause they are hilarious and awesome.

From Montreal…

Man oh man. Where do I start?

Seriously, where’s a good place to start?

Museums, you say? The REDPATH MUSEUM, is it? Good idea.

Pretty cool place, this Redpath Museum. Recognize the name? Sugar? Tea? You got it. It’s a cool old building on the McGill campus that houses a collection of (well, everything, really… natural history, anthropolgy, geology. I think that covers everything, don’t you?) stuff amassed by the Redpath family. Or at least that’s my understanding of it, so don’t quote me. Anyway, drawings!

They weren't arranged like this, but I thought it was pretty cool that they had a dromaeosaur, an ostrich and a chicken skeleton. BIRDIE EVOLUTION!!

This was from a lot later in the month, but since we're on the subject... I thought a page crammed with Redpath stuff would be fun. Narwhal tusk? Ooooohhhh man. I also really liked the parrot on the left, can you tell?

That little parrot up there was apparently the only member of the parrot family to be native to North America. Cool, huh? But of course in true North American fashion, it is now extinct.

Great... Blue... Heron... I love them.

I drew this heron from a different angle on the page of sketches. I can’t get enough of these guys!!
