More fun at the Fair

Huh, seems like the Winter Fair has led to quite a bit of material this year. Is this the third post about it? Either way, here we go again cause I gots me some drawerings… FAIR drawerings. (Oh man that would’ve made a sweet title for this post…)

BIRDS!

It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one who finds pigeons beautiful.

Whoops, gotta crane your neck. Whoops? Crane? Is that a bird joke?? ...if only I was that clever.

Struttin' around like you own the place?

BIRDS!!

Aaaaw, little darlings.

And there you go, that’s what I gone and done at the Fair. Next week: Grammar.

Fun at the Fair

SO! I mentioned the Royal Winter Fair was coming up and that I’d have a painting there… but what I DIDN’T mention was that I’d be there doing a painting demonstration on Friday. Why wouldn’t I mention something like that, you ask? Good question. It’s probly cause I had never done anything like that before.

But the point is that I was, I did and I am! HA! Figure that one out.

Anyway, I was hired to do a demo at 11am and 3pm. So I figured I’d set up some GOURDS, and do two rounds of painting and hopefully have something finished by the end of the day. I did a practice painting a few days before just see what would happen, let’s take a look…

Not that great, but it took about an hour and a half to get this far... Ready for the Fair.

Not that great, but it only took about an hour and a half to get this far... THAT means I'm ready for the Fair.

What with all the sweet preparation I did, I think it went pretty well at the Fair. Here’s the painting I did while I was there…

This took about 4 1/2 hours in total... Not bad for painting in front of people all day.

Ok, so maybe I set them up mostly the same, but isn’t it just possible that there’s a PERFECT combination for every still life? And isn’t it just as possible that I found it for these five gourds? Sure. Why not?

Anyhow, if you recognize any of these veggies it’s cause I watercoloured them a little while back. I’m not one to be defeated by a vegetable, and that green bubbly guy gave me a pretty hard time on that watercolour. So naturally I had to give it another go. And his little friends, too.

But back to the Fair painting, that was a lot of fun. Pretty different when you’re all setup with an easel and stuff and y’know, supposed to be there, rather than when you’re just drawing in your sketchbook. You’d be surprised how pushy those museum crowds can get.

He Thinks He’s People

I’ve been trying to get myself back into regularly going out and drawing people… I’ll be honest, I love it. BUT I’ve been TERRIBLE at it lately. Lately as in, like, two years? No matter what I just can’t pull together a half decent drawing. And I think I used to be pretty good at it, too. That is until I got out of practice.

BUT THERE’S HOPE! I think I’m finally getting back into it! At the very least it’s starting to come more naturally. So take a look-see! These are the last few pages I’ve done… (hey, if you hate them, imagine what the one’s BEFORE this looked like… whew)

That's a Scrabble score in the top corner. I lost.

Peoples 2

Is that my... BROTHER? HA!

I think I like this next one the best. It’s the most recent… except for the black drawings, they’re from months ago… I hate leaving pages unfinished.

What’s the nice thing to say? Keep drawering?

Framed!

WHOA! Hey, whaddaya know, I framed me a painting! Doesn’t it look… PROFESSIONAL?! HA! Take a look!

Look at that SLICK knot in the wood... oh man.
