Thine Mythical Jackaroon… FORSOOTH!!

So I was leafing through a Medieval Bestiary the other day, when to my surprise I stumbled across a fantastical creature with a striking resemblance to my cat.

There he goes again, burning the countryside... BAD KITTY!!

…ok, so I wasn’t really surprised at all. It actually just confirmed my suspicions that he is, in fact, the Jackaroon. Note the golden eyes and weeping angels…

But for you, gentle naysayer, I give you not one, but TWO more pieces of evidence as to the existence of this monstrous creature…

Exhibit A, a painting of mine from a few weeks ago seen here. (scrolling down slightly will get you to the same place… just saying)

And Exhibit B from Jessica Palmer’s Foodstuffs blog, where the Jackaroon was caught ON [digital] FILM!! *WARNING* Not for the weak of heart.

The evidence is damning, folks.

Well, I’ll see you next week.

Dracula Sketches

I’m working on making the next few illustrations for Dracula… but “working on” implies “not done.” Which wouldn’t be ENTIRELY incorrect. Double negative? Confused?

Don’t be. Here’s some of my original sketches for this stuff… three pages worth from the first 40 pages of the book. I might have to omit one or two.

Sketches p2

Hmm? Dark Edges? It's scanned out of a sketchbook, what do you want?

I think the top-left here is still the best drawing I've done of Dracula's face

Process work? Sure, don’t mind if I do.

Touch ye not the Jackaroon

So last week we had a mouse problem that we were all blissfully unaware of until just after 4am one day I awoke to this…

4am

Now I love our cat, Napoleon, but sometimes he really freaks me out.

I felt it necessary to make this painting part of my “I Am Artist” project. I’ve recently come to a bit of a fork in the road with these paintings and this one, “4am” (haha, overdramatic?), is the first entry that was not painted from life. I’m changing my approach slightly to make sure I fulfill my thesis.

Last Week’s Lull

IF you’re a loyal reader you MIGHT have noticed that I didn’t post last week. So to make up for it, I’m gonna post double this week. JEALOUS??

So for starters, a new Pokemon game came out today. Big news? Well, no, not exactly. It’s not even exactly “new” in the strictest sense of the word, being a remake and all… BUT in honour of the little guys whom I loves just so much, here’s a sketch I did a while back of good old fashioned brawl.

I'd imagine they're fighting to the death.

In other nerdly news, the NES turns 25 this year. 1985… how about that?
