Purdy Pictures

I get the sens from talking to my friends and relations that they’d like to see more pictures of what I’ve been up to. So, as requested, here’s some puuuurdy pictures… Ummm, chronological photos, yeah, that makes sense. We’ll go in order.

I imagine that, among other things, these two discuss politics and the weather. And if the bird doesn't give a good sense of scale, that turtle is huge.

Don't be fooled, these are terrible. No problem though, cause that's exactly what I expected.

Weeelll, I think that’s enough for now. I’ll proooobly do this again though. PEACE.

First, An Update

Well, well… Don’t the devil just fool with the best-laid plans… Let’s not mince words here, I am in Italy at the moment and have been for about a month… SO! What we need is some kind of a blog or something, right? For starters, let’s get an old update out of the way…

As for the sketchbook that I built, I had to make a few extra modifications… I figured out pretty quick that it needed a spine reinforcement and something to protect the corners… Now, the corner thing has some pretty rad potential, cause it looks real official and fancy junk. But adding the corner pieces as a last step (or in this case, an afterthought), well, it has some aesthetic consequences. Buuuut live and learn. It’ll be full soon anyway and I’ll need a new one.

It's a bit of a bummer to have this weird overlap. But if it was underneath the inside cover...? Oh baby...

And there was another one of the Active and Contemplative Life sketchbooks that was in seeeeriously bad shape, even worse than the others (Ahem, as I recall I managed to drop it on the sidewalk and step on it in the same awkward movement outside of the Salsateria in Guelph, Ontario), which I also repaired. I figured I’d use a different paper for this one and dug into my unusually large* stock of Japanese papers…

And as for my nephew being crazy for Pokemon, my birthday card is case and point. I love it.

Chandelure is one of my favourites... how did he know??

*Unusually large in that I can’t EVER see myself finding a use for even half of them, and that’d be after some pretty serious trying. What did I think I’d use them for? Why did I buy so much?? I can’t even guess what I thought at the time… I assume it’s not just me, but why do we do this to ourselves? Why is it so easy to accumulate STUFF. Like, no-fooling, honest-to-goodness STUFF. No other definition fits. And art supplies are somehow the worst… you’d think I’d know exactly what I need and only burden myself with the essentials, wouldn’t you? Nope. You should see how much goddam conte I have. I hate conte.

Well, well, well… Look who came crawling back.

HELLO! Hello, yes! Yes, hello! Welcome! Welcome back! It’s been what, two years?

Good friggin’ lord…

ANYHOW, I’m back! Back to WEEKLY posts! Boy, I missed you, loyal reader. And to show it, because you’ve been faithfully checking everyday for the last two years, I got a three-fer for ya today. (Don’t get used to this)

So for starters, MAN OH MAN, the things you find when you clean out your Mom’s house… Check this out! Too bad the Gameboy that came in this box didn’t fare as well against the ravages of time… and nine-year-olds. Still works though, I assure you, but you wouldn’t know from looking at it.

Pretty goddam rad packaging...

Yeah, me and me ol’ Ma are giving the place a hell of an overhaul before I skip the continent. It’s amazing how much shit you can fit in a house. But on the bright side this is the fourth garbage day running that we’ve put out at least this much stuff… Not to mention the trips to goodwill, the clothing pickups and the pile of stuff waiting for the scrap metal guy (yeah, we have a scrap metal guy!).

Decent.

Decent.

The house is definitely the cleanest it’s been in as long as I can remember. I’m actually starting to run out of things to throw out, and IT TERRIFIES ME. Gonna have to dig into more of that “sentimental” bullshit… oh yeah, burn baby, burn…

What? Artwork? Art blog? Shaddap.

Oh Goodness…

Oh my. That was a heck of a hiatus there…

The last post waaaas, let’s see… oh my… September. Wow. Well, a lot has happened since then. Seems like a lot, anyway. Maybe not a lot of postable artwork (Hmmm… spell check doesn’t believe in “postable?” I doubt I made that up… whatever man, the age of innernet and stuff), which I have some mixed feelings on, but a lot nonetheless. INCLUDING a brief interruption in the existence of this whole website! Whew! Kids, take my advice, when you get a new credit card, sit down and think about the bills you pay with that thing! New expiry date! Yeah. There’s a pearl of wisdom for ya, bros.

Anyhow, assuming anyone is still reading this thing, you’re probably not here for my fantastic linguistic abilities, abundant though they may be, so I shall digress into some drawerings or something. Bam. Now that’s a sentence, if I ever sawr me one.

Ahem. Maybe I went crazy? Who knows!? Take a look at these pictures and judge for yourself! Wahooo!

What?? Who's that handsome devil?

Return to the ROM/Retour a la ROM

Guess what?! I got a membership at the ROM! What’s that mean?! ROM all the time! ROM ROM ROM!

What’s at the ROM? DINOSAURS!! What’s not in this post? Drawings of DINOSAURS! Next time, though. I’ve been back a bunch of times since this first time.

And speaking of first times, this was my first time at the ROM since moving to Toronto in January. Whaaaaaaaaaat?? Crazy! What was I waiting for? Money? Well, yeah, probly money. But now I can go all the time! Yessss. I, as you might’ve guessed, am very excited. I usually make my way to the ROM as often as I can. This is probably one of the longest stretches I’ve gone without since 2005, I think. Anyone remember the Feathered Dinosaur exhibit back then?? Oohhhhhhh MAN.

Anyhow, as excited as I was to finally get a pass, I wasn’t really looking forward to their, well, treatment of artists. Since the renovations I kinda noticed they were getting less and less welcoming to anyone drawing. The prices went up, artists were less welcome, pencils only… blah blah blah. To make a long story short, I got yelled at a bunch of different times for a bunch of different stuff. HOWEVER, I had no idea they had lightened up so much! I mean, the ROM is still the coolest, so I figured I’d ignore that stuff… but can you believe it? Backpacks allowed again! Backpacks! My back never felt so good totin’ a pack! Shoot!

Well, as usual, this is stuff that’s only in any way relevant to me, so I’ll move on. Drawing at the ROM. LOTS of drawing at the ROM! This is just the beginning!!

Oh yeah! And the Dinosaurs of Gondwana exhibit is cooooooooll!! Really cool! I recommend it. I’m not big on the multimedia interactive junk, but the dinos are aaaaaaawesome!!
